2013 CinA in Hefei

Greeting from Taiwan after long time. I just came back from China. I was with the Chinese in Action program.
Chinese in Action started in April this year. My parents the same full time participated. My brother, Yue and I were kind of support from outside. I was helping with the administration work and went to join the team in China for around two weeks. And then I will wait for the team to come to Taiwan for the second outreach in July and August.
In the first CinA I went to the city Hefei for my outreach. We spent around two weeks and by the end of the outreach I got a chance to meet a lady who was interested in psychology and was feeling depress and low in her life. I couldn’t spend much time with her because the group was moving to the next city after few days. But the lady came to our place every day and shared with me a lot of her difficult. After CinA I was back in Taiwan we still talk on the internet quite often, I even sent some books for her to read. I was trying to give her some support from Taiwan so that she can have strength to face her life.
This time I took the team to the same city to do our outreach. The lady developed herself quite well and now she had form a learning group, there are around 30 people and they met every two week to study and grow together. When we arrived in Hefei train station she asked one of her friends came to pick us and took us to the place we stay. Time in Hefei because of her, our transportation was been looking after and all the meals we had was pay by her and her friends. This time I can see she had more strength in her life and even can influence the people around her. She said she was really grateful for my support. Because her parents and only sister now staying in the USA, when she faced difficulties most of the time she felt along and helpless. But by me sending books to her, sharing with her and sometimes chat through internet, she felt there was a support.
By her and her friends, our group in Hefei was busy. The first day as soon as we arrived they took us for a big dinner. The second day we visited a NGO that set up by some disabled people to help with the Autism kids. Afternoon we went to the library to meet more disabled people and thinking what kind of serves we can do for them. After we finish there was a friend came to pick us and right away we been took into a radio recording place for an interview recorded which will play on air every Monday talking about family relationships. Just in a week we had spent most of our meal time doing one to one with different people. We had finished two times one day sensitivity workshop and four public speeches.
I feel comfortable doing one to one talk and the sensitivity workshop. With the public speech I still had some fear. Small number was fine but this time there were two public speeches around 100 people. And one of it was a speech to the government leaders.

I try my best. Not all the speeches went really well but the government one was good. When we finished the speech there were a lot of people came to us asking questions and inviting us to do workshop in their department. I slow can see CinA making some impact inside China.
So now I am back to Taiwan back to my work.

2012 HY's fruit full year!!

Happy New Year! Greeting from Taiwan. Year 2012 had finished and year 2013 is going to start. Wish you all the best in the coming year.
My year 2012 was a fruit full year. In 2012 I was kind of stop writing about my life. Of course there was something happened but I guess the biggest reason was because my new role, the secretary general in the EQ office. With this new role, it took most of my time working in the office and my brain thinking + planning different activities.
The Secretary General in EQ Office (whole year)
My life changed after taking this role. The biggest change I guess was that I can’t run around freely. I have an office need to take care so most of the time I need to base at Taiwan, Tainan. One of the challenges I was facing was to work with different people with different personalities. EQ office is a place trying to give Love to whoever came. But still were the human being worked in the office and we had limit. Because of this role it really gave me training in how to communicate with people, especially how to talk to people on an uncomfortable topic. Another difference I found in my life was I can’t live at present. Most of the time I was planned the future activities. But also because of this role I learnt how to deal with different situations, how to see thing in a whole picture, as well as met many interesting life. At the moment I survived a year and hopefully can survive the come year as well.
Senior high school volunteers group keeps going (whole year)
The senior high school volunteers group continued. At the moment I have 17senior high school students in the team. The kids’ camp also continued two times a year for the primary school kids. Since last September I had another university volunteers group. They are going to take the junior high school students camp. And I was also helping to run the adult volunteers group in EQ office. So in total I am running three volunteers groups at the same time. That made my life busier.
Holiday in Caux (July)

Last year I had 9 young people applied for Caux intern program and at the end only one can go. But I promised them if one of them were going then I will go as well. So I went to Caux for 2 weeks and gave myself a nice holiday there. Catching up with old friends, reading books, accompany my student, eating and sleeping most of the time, I enjoyed a lot.
APYC in Japan (August)
Last year I went to Japan to help with the Asia Pacific Youth Conference (APYC). It had been some time I didn’t attend APYC. This time I was in the core planning team working with the international team + Japanese team. I experienced a nice team work especially with my brother taking on family workshop and with Cheng from Malaysia, Siddharth and Rhea from India on morning quiet time. I enjoyed seeing the participants searching their life, trying to understand who they are. And through deep understanding change can happen naturally.

Sharing with students in school
After coming back from APYC I wrote a sharing letter, I shared them with my friends, and some of my parents’ friends. And there were two universities professors wrote me back and said they were touch by my sharing and whether I can go to their class to share with their students about what I am doing and my life. So I went to Kaohsiung National Sun Yat-Sen university sharing with the Political and Economic Department’s students about my experience, especially how to make friends with different culture people and my value in life. Another uni I went was the best uni in Taiwan, the Taiwan National University. Also sharing what I am doing and how I become to the person I am. And I also had a chance enter a senior high school to lead a 14 hours leadership training workshop.
First time being bridesmaid (November)
My first bridesmaid experience was for my senior high school roommate. I was happy to accompany her to get married. It was a wonderful feeling to know we been knowing each other for more than 10 years. From teenager to growing up, from single to she found her life partner. But wearing in a nice dress with the high heel shoes really made me suffer. Especially I was wearing the high heel claim up and down the stairs.
Malaysia Seed Initiatives Youth Program (December)
This was my third time went to help with the youth program. It was tiring but I enjoy mix in with the young people. This year we had 40 participants from age 15 to age 64. This time I was helping morning Quiet Time and in the afternoon I did a body workshop, getting to know how to get alone with our emotion. Another help I was doing was taking care for the small group leaders. Most of them were the first time leading a small group. Many interesting and touching stories happened during these eight days and seven nights.
For the countdown I went to an island near the south part of Taiwan, Xiao liu qiu with my dance group senior and junior. It was cold on the last day but the first day of 2013 the weather was so nice. And we went up early to see the sunrise. So I had a nice New Year countdown. Hope you also had a nice one.

Best wishes

2012 Japan APYC

2012  Japan  APYC
This was my fifth time to attend APYC but was my first time to be invited in the preparation committee. I guessed maybe because I was in the committee so that I felt more connected with this APYC than the previous ones. Or the simple reason was because of the theme “Kizuna” (Bonds).
There were so many things going on during this APYC. I would like to share some of the things what I felt and learned.
Firstly, confused. The three Japanese ladies who are responsible for APYC are very new to organize such a big conference. They tried very hard and carried so much administration work, but the information didn’t pass on well enough so that most of the time I was confused about when to meet, where should we go and how the things were arranged.
Secondly, enjoy. During APYC I had so much enjoy moment. I enjoyed the culture night and workshops presentation a lot. This time we worked with a group called “A Common Beat”. They are professional performing group in acting, singing, and dancing. Half of the Japanese participants came from this group. They have people helped with the evening programs. The way they held the evening programs made everybody enjoy the evening so much.
I enjoyed the morning exercise too. Every morning we had some stretching and then we did different activities. The person who led the morning exercise really made everyone looking forward to waking up in the morning.
I also enjoyed the friendship I made during APYC. Especially working with Cheng again and got to know Siddharth and Rhea. Four of us had planning meeting every night, I enjoyed the friendship and the team work even I only slept 4 hours per day.
Thirdly, I was proud of myself and the team. This time I was responsible for the session of “Morning Quiet Time” with Cheng, and the “Family Workshop” with my brother Chine Che. Thanks for help from Siddharth and Rhea with whom we had brainstorming every night. Also I was grateful to those who shared their stories during Quiet Time input, especially some of them were invited to share just before the Quiet Time started. This time I could see most of the new people really took the idea of Quiet Time. On the last day all of us (around 80 people) had a two hours quiet afternoon together. I was sorry that we didn’t have enough time to share.
Taking on the sessions of “Quiet Time” and “Family Workshop” was a new experience for me. Before coming to APYC I had a rough idea of what I should touch yet I was open for any other thoughts to come in. Then the inspirations come in when I had my own Quiet Time in the morning. It was just like God’s voice leading me through the time when I was talking to the group. And the feedbacks from the participants were so positive which encouraged me very much.
Lastly, the touching moment during APYC. There was one young man in my family group who came from the earthquake place and was invited to share his experience in one of the main sessions. He was the youngest participant, 18 years old, and hardly spoke any English. In family group he only spoke Japanese and asked someone to translate for him yet he prepared his speech in English. The night before he was speaking, around midnight I saw him practicing his speech outside his room. Later on I realized he didn’t go back to his room to sleep because he was practicing so hard that he felt asleep outside. While he was sharing in the main session none of us could understand his English, but I was touched by his hard working and sincerity. Looking at him I can see the hope.
During APYC the issues among different countries was brought up as well. There were mixed relationship among Japan, Korea, and China. Many nights there were different small groups going on talks about different parts of the history. It was painful for the young Japanese to know what Japan had done to Korea and China since their text book never taught. On the closing I was touched to see Korean, Japanese, and Chinese sat together building up the friendships.
There is much more to share but I will stop here.
Thank you for reading.
